I've had a proper gaming fix lately. My fingers itch for an epic game of Tetris with a formiddable opponent (not many haha). My old DS Lite was no longer in a condition to Tetris out :( The up key (hard drop) and A key (rotate tetramino) was worn out to a point where you can barely get it to work (people were noticing easy victories when a typical game would include a 20 win streak (well that's if i'm really angry or happy).

Anyway, tetris is one of my favourite games of all time and I noticed some new games on the DS are approaching the horizon so I thought it was time to get back into it all, in enters DSi. The improved console that's tailored for the individual (hence the i in the DS). I find most of the new features a bit shonky (the webcam in particular, the iPhone makes me cringe already, so a VGA camera will most likely be lulztastic), the DS shop is pretty fun but there's nothing new there (and a few games are just mini games from proper games). Hopefully things will take off more but for now it's going to be a fest of Tetris, The World Ends with YOU! Phoenix Wright! Brain Training and Kingdom Hearts.

Goodtimes

I've been trying to digitise more of my archive photographs of Toronto and other places. Whenever I was abroad on business I always had a small 35mm compact camera in my overcoat pocket, and would fill in some of my spare time by walking around the cities I was visiting and taking photographs.

Most of these were snaps of no great merit, but an interesting record/momento of the trips.

Now I come to revisit the archive I find - to my surprise and disappointment -that many of the negatives are in very poor condition (despite being carefully stored in protective sleeves etc.) They are often quite badly scratched and faded. If I scan them they need a lot of further editing and processing using PSP.

Where I still have them, I've found I can get as good results, if not better, by scanning the prints that were taken at the time.

The final result still is not brilliant, and certainly not as crisp as I'd like, but one or two are worth posting here.
